IN PERSON WORKSHOP
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
1 Day Introduction
with Tom Parkes, LCSW
Discover the Power of ACT in Your Clinical Practice
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) has become one of the most widely used evidence-based therapies for helping clients break free from the grip of avoidance, fear, and limiting beliefs — and move toward living a life guided by their deepest values.
In this one-day, in-person workshop, Tom Parkes, LCSW will guide you through the foundational principles and core processes of ACT. Through a blend of teaching, discussion, and hands-on experiential practice, you’ll leave with practical tools you can immediately begin integrating into your client sessions.
Whether you’re brand new to ACT or looking to strengthen your skills, this training will give you fresh insights, effective strategies, and renewed confidence in your clinical work.
What You’ll Learn
By the end of this interactive training, you will be able to:
Clearly describe the goals and theoretical foundation of ACT
Recognize when clients are engaging in experiential avoidance and guide them toward greater acceptance
Distinguish between cognitive fusion and cognitive defusion (and why it matters)
Apply interventions that promote present-moment awareness
Help clients move beyond the limits of their “conceptualized self”
Clarify the vital role of personal values in therapy (and distinguish values from goals)
Select interventions that promote committed action when clients feel behaviorally stuck
Explore the role of the therapeutic relationship in applying ACT successfully
Practice and role-play the 6 core processes of ACT
