Clinical Skills for Complex PTSD

with Amber Trejo, LMFT

REGISTER NOW

Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) presents with unique challenges that go beyond the traditional PTSD framework. This training provides clinicians with a clear understanding of the developmental, relational, and neurobiological impacts of chronic trauma, as well as practical tools for treatment. Participants will learn to differentiate C-PTSD from related diagnoses, address common symptoms such as emotional flashbacks, dissociation, and shame, and integrate trauma-informed, attachment-based, and somatic interventions. By the end of this course, clinicians will feel more confident and equipped to support survivors in moving from survival patterns toward healing and resilience.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define complex trauma (C-PTSD) and describe how it differs from PTSD.

  • Identify the core features and presenting symptoms of C-PTSD, including emotional dysregulation, shame, dissociation, and relational difficulties.

  • Distinguish the clinical presentation of PTSD versus C-PTSD to improve diagnostic clarity.

  • Explain how C-PTSD manifests in the nervous system and recognize client states (fight, flight, freeze, fawn, collapse) through observable cues.

  • Evaluate and apply evidence-based and integrative modalities for treating C-PTSD, including somatic, attachment-based, and trauma-informed approaches.
