This workshop offers an in-depth exploration of attachment theory and its influence on the relationships our clients form. Participants will learn how different attachment styles can lead to patterns of unhealthy connection, including emotionally abusive or addictive relationships. Clinicians will gain practical tools to help clients recognize these patterns, understand the underlying emotional dynamics, and begin the process of healing. Emphasis will be placed on restoring a client’s sense of self and autonomy in the aftermath of toxic relational experiences.

MEET YOUR FACILITATOR
Debra Alper is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Chicago, specializing in relational therapy. She assists clients in identifying and recovering from emotional abuse, as well as providing guidance throughout the divorce process and post-divorce recovery. Since 1999, she has worked with individuals seeking deeper relationships, couples facing marital crises such as infidelity, and clients navigating the emotional challenges of divorce. She also works extensively with clients in emotionally abusive relationships helping them to understand the dynamics that keep them stuck and aiding them in moving out of toxic patterns.
Debra Alper received her undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and her master’s in social work from Loyola University, Chicago. She has received specialized training in Gottman Marital Therapy, Harville Hendrix Imago Therapy, and she participated in a yearlong weekly seminar from the University of Chicago on Psychodynamic Theory. When Debra is not working you can find her walking the lakefront with her beloved dog Gracie-belle, spending time with her daughter and son-in-law, working hard at the gym, checking out farmer’s markets in the city, or hopefully traveling somewhere.
